Celebrate His Excellency’s birthday with music, crafts and singing happy birthday to General George Washington. Children (7 years and older) can "Join the Continental Army" with a special inspection from General Washington. For more information, visit www.nps.gov/vafo.


10:00-12:00 Meet George and Martha Washington:  Reenactors portraying the General and Lady Washington will be available for pictures and conversation.  In heated tent. 

10:00-12:00 Birthday Cards for the General: Kids can show their appreciation to the General by creating a Birthday Card for him.  In heated tent 10:00 to 12:00.

 Join the Continental Army: Kids can enlist into the Continental Army, learn basic marching steps, and get reviewed by the Commander-in-Chief himself!  Enlistment begins in main tent at 10:00.  All recruits muster for training outside heated tent at 11:00, to be marched up to a mini parade ground (just above old Visitor Center) for training.    

 12:00-1:00 Celebrate Washington’s Birthday: Get a free cupcake from the Culinary Institute and hear an address from George and Martha Washington.  (NOTE: Soldiers First!  Participants in the Join the Continental Army program will gain first access to cupcakes)

 1:00 Ranger-led Walk.  Finish off your celebration with a free ranger-guided walk to the Mulhenberg Brigade Huts led by a Park Ranger.  Meet the Ranger just in front of the Temporary Visitor Center, covers ¼ mile in length and should take approx. 40 minutes.  Tour begins at 1:00, or immediately after birthday celebration if event runs late. 

 Additional Activities:

 Living History at Muhlenberg’s Brigade.  Join a ranger in period clothing in the reproduction huts at stop #2.  10:00-2:00

 Park Film. 18 minute introductory film showing in Temporary Visitor Center, every 30 minutes, 9:30-4:30.

 Washington’s Headquarters: Open 10:00-4:00.
