Opening Day: A Weekend on the Trails Across the Region

This trail season promises to be full of adventures, trail pride and trail network growth.  Throughout the year, more than 10 new trails are expected to open on the Circuit, with additions in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We’ll see the opening of four new segments of the Schuylkill River Trail, Cooper’s Poynt Trail with incredible views of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Camden, the long-awaited opening on the Chester Creek Trail in Delaware County, the Trenton Wellness Loop, the K&T Trail along the Delaware River, and more! These new trails bring us closer to our goal of 500 miles of trails by 2025 and provide many more mores of trails to explore.

On Opening Day for Trails (April 8), and throughout the weekend, we are asking you to help us celebrate the exciting trail season ahead by getting out on the Circuit Trails and showing your trail pride.  With events happening across the region from rides to clean ups to record-breaking moments, there is plenty of activity to keep you entertained on the trails.

Fist Bump Your Way to the Record Books

By now you may have heard that we teamed up with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ to meet a new challenge on the trails this April 8.  Join us to be part of a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ record attempt for the longest fist bump relay!  If that’s not enough incentive to come out to Penn Treaty Park for the attempt, we’ll be raffling off one adult and one child Fuji bike.  To register, or learn more about the event, visit the website.

Spring Cleaning

Need a great excuse to be out on the trails before heading over to the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ event in the afternoon? Join DRCC on the Port Richmond Trail for a spring trail cleanup.  They will be giving out prizes, snacks and even awarding the best dressed dogs. We all know that when we all pitch in our trails are cleaner, safer more wonderful places to be.  Here’s your chance to help. Grab your pup and head to Pulaski Park!

Explore the Circuit with Friends

Opening Day is a day for being on the trails and what better way to do that than to explore the Circuit Trails with friends?  The Bicycle Coalition will be taking riders on an 18-mile exploration of the Schuylkill, Audubon and Perkiomen Trails with a visit to the new Sullivan’s Bridge.  The FreeWalkers of New Jersey are inviting everyone to go on an epic journey along the D&R Canal with their 28-mile Great Canal Walk.

Two Chances to Celebrate on the Chester Valley Trail

On Friday, April 7 at the Exton Trailhead that Transportation Management Association of Chester County is holding a press conference in celebration of the new trail season. If that’s not enough, on Saturday trail organizations are joining together to fill the Chester Valley Trail with fun activities and helpful safety checks.

Exercise to Support Our Watersheds

Make Opening Day a full weekend affair by lacing up your sneakers for the fifth annual Healthy Trails 5K on Sunday, April 9! This family-friendly event in Tacony Creek Park supports TTF Watershed’s mission of ensuring the health of our watershed. And if you need some added motivation, the first 50 people to register for the run are eligible to win a highly-coveted Broad Street Run bib!

Whether you join one of these events, or create your own trail adventure, we want to see you exploring the hundreds of miles of trails that make our region great. Don’t forget to share your pictures with us this Opening Day, and throughout the trail season, using #onthecircuit!
