Cross County Trail Extension
Cross County Trail Extension
Erdenheim Farm:
This project will make the connection between the Cross County Trail in Whitemarsh Township with the Wissahickon Trail in Fort Washington State Park to the end of Wissahickon Trail by Stenton and Northwestern Avenue near the Morris Arboretum. Montgomery County is in the process of designing the trail and should let the project for construction in 2017 or 2018.
Fort Washington State Park to the Pennypack Trail:
From its junction with the Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken, the Cross County Trail heads north through a mix of urban and suburban areas. Currently, three miles are completed from Conshohocken to Germantown Pike in Plymouth Township. Eventually, the completed 17.5-mile trail will connect to Willow Grove and into Bucks County, providing a major north-south route through the heart of Montgomery County. It will also join up with the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail, giving users access to Fort Washington State Park, Morris Arboretum, and Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. This section of the trail will be built in two segments. The first phase is to build a three mile section along Virginia Drive in the Fort Washington Business Park. This will be a combination of low stress roads and physically separated sidepaths. The remaining 5 miles will be planned for phase 2 on a yet to be determined alignment between Virginia Drive and the Pennypack Trail in Bryn Athyn.
Plymouth Meeting to Whitemarsh:
This section of the Cross County Trail from Germantown Pike to Whitemarsh is in design. It will connect with the Wissahickon Trail at Erdenheim Farm.
