At only 2 miles in length, the Port Richmond Trail may not be a destination unto itself, but it does provide a vital link between northeast Philadelphia and the Delaware River. Part of the North Delaware River Greenway, which is also part of the East Coast Greenway, the paved Port Richmond Trail travels between Allegheny and Delaware Avenues along a tree-lined route. The trail is not the most scenic, as it passes through an industrial area in transition, but it connects to the Monkiewicz Playground and Pulaski Park, which offers a fishing pier and views of the Delaware River. Plans call for eventually linking with the planned Richmond Street Trail at one end and the South Bridesburg Trail at the other.

The Port Richmond Trail is fully designed and funded through the federally funded Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program. The project redesigned two existing city streets reducing the width by 12-25 feet and added a green buffer of trees and shrubs. The trail was opened in 2013 and is the first link in connecting this Philadelphia neighborhood with the greater Circuit Trails network. To learn more about the trail click here.
