Gloucester Mt. Ephraim Trail: Gloucester Township Health and Fitness Trail
Constructed on an abandoned railroad right-of-way, the 2.7-mile Gloucester Township Health and Fitness Trail (GTHF), formerly known as the Blackwood Railroad Trail, links neighborhoods, schools and recreational facilities in Blackwood, Gloucester Township, N.J. The new name reflects the township’s commitment to expanding the number of multi-use trails and promoting fitness in the community.
The paved GTHF begins at Brown and East Atlantic avenues and passes through wooded areas, a large athletic field complex and residential neighborhoods before crossing Elaine Avenue and ending at Main Street by Grenloch Lake. A highlight of the GTHF is a restored red railroad caboose located at Church Street and Railroad Avenue. A mid-trail playground, and a relatively flat route, makes this a perfect outing for those with smaller children, although note that there are several road crossings. Currently the GTHF does not connect to trails on on the Circuit network. For more information see Gloucester County’s website here.
