Fall is officially here! So as the nights start to get longer, and the temperature hopefully begins to drop for real this time, it is time to say goodbye to summer and welcome comfy sweater – a perfect time of year to enjoy the trails! Take some time this October to celebrate the season with friends and family #onthecircuit.
We’ve put together a quick list of some of the best fall events happening #onthecircuit in October. They are sure to “leaf” you wanting to spend more time on the trails!
For Autumn Adventurers
If you’re the type of person who enjoys a good run, walk or hike in the crisp fall air, then these events are perfect for you. Go the distance #onthecircuit as you experience the trails at their peak of stunning fall foliage.
Walk on the D&R Canal towpath from Fireman’s Eddy to Prallsville Mill (MP). The tour will include the historic remnants of the feeder canal outlet lock to the river, other historic canal structures, and expansive views across river.
This 18-mile walk through Trenton and Lower Bucks County along the Delaware Canal and East Coast Greenway will take you through Revolutionary battle locations in Trenton, past General Washington’s headquarters in Morrisville, through the stagecoach village of Fallsington where William Penn established the first Quaker meeting in America in 1683, into the nation’s largest single-developer town of Levittown that pioneered suburban planning, and all about post-industrial Bristol as it undergoes its latest economic shift and rebirth.
Enjoy the stunning fall foliage along the Delaware River with this 18mile walk from Trenton to New Hope and Lambertville, NJ. You will venture along the Delaware Canal through Morrisville and Yardley before reaching Washington Crossing, where you’ll have the opportunity to cross the Delaware and tour historic buildings.

For the Spooky Souls
Satisfy your spooky side with some of the more haunting events #onthecircuit this October. From scary movies to Halloween rides, we’ve got an action-pack fall schedule on the trails that are sure to thrill!
Northeast Philadelphia’s biggest outdoor movie series, presented by Riverfront North Partnership, is here! Join us for screenings by the river of your favorite flicks! All movies will start at sundown and various kids activities will be run prior to the start of the films. Get spooked with October’s film: Goosebumps 2.
A special Halloween ride on the Josiah White II, a ghost walk to the locktender’s house, ghost stories, hay ride, crafts and lots of fun activities and snacks. New this year – Two boat rides to choose from, hayride back from locktender’s house, “spiked” cider (for guests 21 & over) and more.
The Lawrence Hopewell Trail will host the 5th Annual Trail and Treat Bike Ride, a celebration of the Halloween spirit for families with children ages 12 and under. There will be two rides, a 1/4 mile loop geared toward younger riders 6 and under, and a 1 mile ride for the more experienced riders ages 6-12. Walkers are welcome. Costumes and bike decorating are encouraged in celebration of the Halloween theme.
Candlelit paths, friendly costumed nocturnal animals, and hayrides along our trails—see our magical moonlit forest at our annual Halloween festival. End your hike and hayride with s’mores by the campfire, nature-inspired crafts and activities, and food from local vendors.

For the Pumpkin-Everything Lovers
Fall in love with fall #onthecircuit at one of our family-fun festivals! Get into the season with hayrides, pumpkin patches and plenty of cider.
Grab your family and come on down to the 2019 Harvest Festival at Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden! There will be Pumpkin Carving, Cider pressing, Hayrides, Food Workshops, paddling on the river, and so much more!
Fill the entire month with festivities by attending more than one of these awesome events #onthecircuit – and take your camera with you! There are sure to be plenty of awesome places for you to snap pictures along the trail, especially in your Halloween costumes!
