Join us for a free Juneteeth celebration at historic Hatfield – the big white house at 33rd and Girard! Bring your lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy live jazz music, a DJ, kid-friendly activities and games, and prize giveaways. Enjoy refreshments including pretzels and water ice. Plus, step inside the house to see a new photo exhibit from We Walk PHL In Color Birding Club, and GirlTrek: “Healing Through the Land: Black Faces in Green Spaces.”
June 19th is Juneteenth, which commemorates and honors the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19th, 1865 (two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation), Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were free.
This event is hosted in partnership with United Way and Net Community Care.
