People of the Park Ribbon Cutting
Join the Tacony Creek Park community and the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Waternshed Partnership (TTF Watershed) for the public People of the Park ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 19 from 2-2:30 p.m. Register to attend here.
TTF Watershed’s latest storytelling project will be unveiled to strengthen community connection and exploration of Tacony Creek Park. The “People of the Park” portrait series celebrates the stories of diverse community members who enjoy the park and its trails, which is a community portal to the developing 800-mile multi-use Circuit Trails across Greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.
The ceremony will be hosted at the southernmost portrait sign honoring Maria Vazquez, along the Tacony Creek Park trail right below the gateway at East Tabor Road and East Olney Avenue. The event will include a tour of all four signs to cut ribbons with the featured individuals in attendance.
The goal of the project is to inspire park users through images, words, voices and sounds of their neighbors. Those featured in “People of the Park” include the following friends of Tacony Creek Park: Seri Chao, a champion of Cambodian Cooking; Dr. Rhoda Moise, a scientist, dance artist and educator; Maria Vazquez, a park caretaker; and Thomas and Savannah McHale, park walk leaders and advocates.
Tacony Creek Park is a 300-acre park managed by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, one of the city’s five watershed parks, located within the Olney, Lawncrest, Feltonville, Juniata Park and Frankford neighborhoods. The park includes the 3.2-mile paved Tacony Creek Trail that runs along the creek. Tacony Creek Park and Tacony Creek Trail are a part of the Circuit Trails.
