For bike commuters, the Cross County Trail will one day provide a seamless corridor through sections of Montgomery County, PA. Today, 3 paved miles of the eventual 17.5-mile route have been completed, and is well-used by cyclists, walkers and in-line skaters. Don’t, however, dismiss the trail due to its short length, as the CCT allows for an easy connection with the popular Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken.

The current route travels north through a mix of urban and suburban areas, including passing in front of the North American headquarters of IKEA and other large shopping centers. The CCT ends at Germantown Pike in Plymouth Township but will eventually continue to Willow Grove where it will connect to the Pennypack Trail.  At Erdenheim Farm in Whitemarsh Township, the trail will connect to the Wissahickon Trail (also known as the Green Ribbon Trail) which will offer access to Fort Washington State Park, Morris Arboretum, and Fairmount Park; as well as the Power Line Trail, and the Chester Valley Trail (via the Schuylkill River Trail.)

The future CCT will provide myriad links to Circuit Trails while offering a transportation corridor through developed portions of Montgomery County. Future trail users will also be to access sites along the route such as Hope Lodge, historic Bryn Athyn Borough, and scenic areas such as Wissahickon Green Ribbon Preserve and Pennypack Wilderness Preserve.

Visitors and commuters can currently access the trail at the Conshohocken SEPTA trail stations, and in the future will also be able to reach via stations in Norristown, Ft. Washington and Willow Grove. For more information click here.
