Help Shape the Future of the Circuit Trails

Trails are essential to our communities—they provide safe routes for biking and walking to school or work; access to nature; and connections across neighborhoods, counties and state lines. We need your help to continue to build support for expanding the Circuit Trails network.

We need your voice. The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) is making decisions right now that will shape how transportation funding is spent in the coming years. DVRPC has opened its public comment period for TWO important draft plans: The Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for New Jersey and the Draft Connections 2050 Long-Range Plan Update for Greater Philadelphia.

New Jersey’s TIP represents the region’s federally funded transportation priorities and is required by federal law in order for the Greater Philadelphia Region to receive and spend federal transportation funds. The TIP currently includes $90.88 million to advance the development of the Rancocas Creek Greenway, the Glassboro-Elk Trail, the Camden County LINK Trail, and the Johnson Trolley Trail in southern New Jersey, which represents over 40 miles of future Circuit Trails projects.

Connections 2050 Long-Range Plan Update for Greater Philadelphia is prepared every four years. It’s a critically important document because it lays out how the region will spend federal transportation funds, which in turn has a substantial impact on the region’s transportation infrastructure, including the Circuit Trails Network across the entire region. The current draft prioritizes and fully-funds the Circuit Trails Network.

For more than a decade, we’ve been working together, across the region, to connect 500 miles of Circuit Trails so more people in Greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey can safely walk, bike and be active outside. These investments could represent enormous steps forward, but we need your comments of support. Comments will be accepted through Aug. 20.

Use the links below to send a letter to the DVRPC in support of the Circuit Trails in both the NJ TIP and the Long-Range Plan.

Circuit Trails Regional Map

The Circuit Trails is an incredible regional asset for the Greater Philadelphia-South Jersey region. Our diverse and growing network of trails is a place for our community to connect, gather, commute, recreate and discover new destinations across our region. With more than 411 miles of completed trails to date, our network is still growing toward its ultimate goal of 800-plus miles across our nine-county region.

As we work toward a completed network, we know that the Circuit Trails needs to reach an interim goal of 500 completed miles of trails by 2025. And to get to that goal, we’ve developed an action plan to move the Circuit Trails forward.

The result of more than a year’s worth of analysis and work conducted by members of the Circuit Trails Coalition, the action plan maps out trail segment projects and policy recommendations that would enable us to achieve our 500 miles by 2025 goal.
