Increasing access to cycling can have a meaningful positive effect on a community. Cycling is a life sport for all ages, providing ongoing health benefits as well as serving as an environmentally friendly transportation option. A recent Urban Institute report finds that equitable access to quality and reliable transportation is key to advancing racial equity.
It is Youth Development United’s intention to continue increasing access to cycling for the children and families of Chester, Eddystone and Upland. To date, we have tuned and given away over 250 donated bicycles, helped create three bike libraries and hosted three Bike Rodeos.
Bike rodeos have included:
-
free bicycle raffle (for families whose children qualify for free or reduced lunch; click here to register for future giveaways)
-
free helmets and bike locks
-
riding lessons for beginners
-
bike obstacle courses
-
bike maintenance lessons
-
bike safety instruction
-
nearby route recommendations
-
cornhole, soccer and other family fun
-
free meal
-
free t-shirt for registered participants
Donated bikes are now being accepted at:
