Exploring the Circuit Trails

On the Circuit, every trail leads to a new adventure. Whether you’re exploring routes that run alongside waterfronts, discovering dense foliage hidden within urban cities, or relaxing in sun-filled parks, there are more than 411 miles of Circuit Trails in Greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey where you can find your fun

As more and more of the Circuit Trails network is completed, we hope you will eventually explore its entire 800-miles-plus footprint. While progress continues to be made, we’ve created a few quick video itineraries to guide and inspire your next trail trip!

Cynwyd Heritage Trail

Montgomery County, PA

Things to do: 

 – Grab snacks or drinks at Platform Z at the Cynwyd Station Trailhead

 – Take a book or leave a book at one of lending libraries along the trail

 – Explore the area’s rich industrial history through informational signage

 – Venture onto Main Street by taking the Manayunk Bridge Trail to explore restaurants and shops

 – Rent an Indego bike to ride on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail or into Mayanunk and connect with the Schuylkill River and Manayunk Towpath trails

Pennypack Trail

Philadelphia County, PA

Things to do: 

 – Connect to the Delaware River Waterfront and access the Delaware River Trail to extend your trip beyond the Pennypack Trail’s 14 miles

 – Picnic and enjoy the scenic and hilly route

 – Learn about the history of the region 

 – Enjoy the trail’s vivid greenery

 – Bring along a furry friend for company 

 – Take a bike ride for exercise or leisure

Chester Valley Trail

Chester County and Montgomery County, PA

Things to do: 

 – Stop in for a bite at local restaurants

 – Hop off the trail and shop at the King of Prussia Mall

 – Connect to the Schuylkill River Trail to explore Valley Forge Park 

 – Learn about the trail’s past via informational signage

 – Gear up for a great ride featuring beautiful scenery and plenty of shade

 – Don’t stress over bike breakdowns, the trail has multiple fix-it stations

 – Explore, discover and identify foliage and species

Delaware River Heritage Trail – Rt. 130 Bypass Section

Burlington County, NJ

Things to do: 

 – Explore Crystal Lake Park and its scenic views 

 – Plan a picnic at the park’s covered pavilion with access to permanent bathrooms

 – Immerse yourself in the vivid ecosystem of the working farm within Crystal Lake Park

 – For an adventure, use the trail to connect with equestrian, hiking and mountain bike trails

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum 

Philadelphia County, PA

Things to do: 

 – Start your trip at the Visitor’s Center to find helpful information, including maps, brochures, birding checklists and restrooms

 – Explore a range of habitats in this urban oasis, from tidal and non-tidal freshwater marshes, river systems, meadows, shrub lands and riparian forests

 – Bring along binoculars to catch a better view of the more than 300 species of birds living within the refuge

 – Experience physical art installations within the refuge

 – Download the TrailOff App to immerse yourself in a story written specifically for this trail that progresses as you travel the trail

 – Enjoy beautiful flowers within the refuge’s pollinator garden

 – Kayak or canoe in the Darby Creek, which flows through the property
