My Circuit Trails: Keya’s Experience
Authored By: The Circuit Trails
Keya Johnson starts almost every morning with a walk on the Perkiomen Trail. Motivated by her 10,000 daily step goal, Keya has walked through multiple counties in Pennsylvania, exploring new Circuit Trails along the way.
“The trails make me feel wonderful, they make me feel refreshed,” Keya said. “I love spending time in nature. I love meeting new people on the trail.”

Keya frequents the Collegeville section of the Perkiomen Trail; however, the full trail extends more than 20 miles, branching off of the Schuylkill River Trail in Oaks and extending through Montgomery County to Green Lane.
“I found the Perkiomen Trail because it’s near my work, and I was doing the Montgomery Trail Challenge,” Keya said.
The Montgomery Trail Challenge, now in its ninth year, is a family-friendly program that encourages participants to track their visits to select Montgomery County trails from April 27 to Dec. 2. Many of the trails in the challenge are part of the Circuit Trails network including the Perkiomen Trail, Schuylkill River Trail, Skippack Trail, 202 Trail, Powerline Trail, Pennypack Trail and more.
“I love Philadelphia’s trails. I’m glad [the region] has them, because other places don’t.”
The Circuit Trails network currently includes more than 411 miles of trails in the Greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey region. Thanks to advocacy from the Circuit Trails Coalition, community members and local elected officials, a new infusion of $120 million of federal funding from the Carbon Reduction Program will go toward trail development projects in four major Pennsylvania corridors–Spring Garden Street Greenway, Cross County Trail, Chester Valley Trail and Route 291 Trail/East Coast Greenway. These developments will help bring the Circuit Trails Coalition closer to achieving its goal of 500 miles #OnTheCircuit by 2025, offering more places for people like Keya to get out and get active.
“There’s so much to do on the Circuit Trails. I say take advantage of it, don’t let this pass you by!”
