Seven Circuit Trails Fall Festivities

Can you feel a change in the air? Fall is here, and there’s a full line-up of fall festivities ready for you to enjoy #OnTheCircuit. After a summer of hotter-than-hot days, cool down with one or more of these events to usher in the season’s changes, indulge in Halloween haunts, and have some outdoor fun this fall.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

When: Oct.4 – Nov. 3

Spruce Street Harbor Park is open for the fall! Experience the twinkling lights, comfortable hammocks, and the waterside breeze while enjoying outdoor dining—with new food additions this year—just steps off the Delaware River Trail in Philadelphia. Schuylkill Banks Ghost Tours 

When: Oct. 11, 12, 18, 24, 25, 26 and 27

Schuylkill Banks is hosting its chilling ghost tours this season along the Schuylkill River Trail. This candlelit tour is fun for people of all ages. Experience the hauntingly beautiful 18th century fortress, Fort Mifflin, and learn about the spirits that may dwell on the grounds. Starting at 7 p.m., tours will depart every 20 minutes. PARK AFTER DARK: Moonwalk + Stargazing Party

When: Tuesday, Oct. 15

Stargaze and hike with Fairmount Park Conservancy and Buddy Muhler, an astronomer and science educator. This event will get you outdoors and howling at the moon. While on the hike, you’ll be able to look through Buddy’s telescope to view the enchanting sky. Learn more and get tickets here.

SWWAG Workshop: Fire Cider

When: Thursday, Oct. 17

Join Southwest and West Agriculture Network (SWWAG) for a workshop to make “fire cider,” which is traditionally infused with herbs, spices and apple cider vinegar, at Bartram’s Garden from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Register for free here.

LHT Trail & Treat

When: Sunday, Oct. 20

Every year, Lawrence Hopewell Trail (LHT) hosts its Trail and Treat Bike Ride, a celebration of the Halloween spirit, for families with children ages 12 and under. The ride and fun activities take place in Village Park in Lawrence Township.

The event includes face painting, Halloween games and live music, followed by two rides on the LHT. The short 1/4-mile loop is geared toward younger riders, 6 and under, and a 1-mile ride for the more experienced riders ages 6-12. Walkers are welcome. Costumes and bike decorating are encouraged in celebration of the Halloween theme. Register for the Trail & Treat here.

Tour de Towpath Ride/Half Marathon/5K

When: Saturday, Oct. 26

Fifty years ago this October, New Jersey Governor Brendan Byrne signed legislation to create the Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park, now a 70-mile linear park passing through four Central Jersey counties. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the park and the D&R Canal Commission, D&R Canal Watch, a nonprofit working to engage the public in the protection of the environment and preservation of the heritage of the D&R Canal, has announced a walk-run-bike event called Tour de Towpath. Centered at Cadwalader Park in Trenton on Saturday, Oct. 26, attend to ride, roll or stroll along the D&R Canal Towpath and catch a glimpse of some of the best fall foliage in the process. Manayunk Trick- or – Trolley

When: Friday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26

Take a ride down Main Street in the Manayunk Trick-or-Treat Trolley! Enjoy spooky decorations, music, movies and more at this free event. Don’t miss a chance to meet Schuylkill Skelly–the trolley’s very own mascot. Before you catch a ride, take a spooky stroll on the Manayunk Towpath, right off of Main Street. Get more details here.

When: Saturday, Nov. 2

Join the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia #OnTheCircuit for this beginner friendly group ride on Fox Chase to Pennypack Trail. Find new areas along our Circuit Trails network! Get your ticket to ride with the group here.
